Jeffrey McCormick Appointed Vice Chair of the State Board of Bar Overseers
08/30/2010
Jeff McCormick has been appointed Vice Chair of the Board of Bar Overseers of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, effective July, 2010. Jeff has served on that Board since January, 2007.
The Board of Overseers was established by the Supreme Judicial Court in 1974 as an independent administrative body to investigate and evaluate complaints against lawyers. Although the Board is an official body subject to the supervision of the Supreme Judicial Court, no public funds are spent to support it. The Board's expenses come solely from the annual registration fees paid by lawyers.
The Board of Bar Overseers consists of twelve volunteer members who are appointed by the Court for four-year terms.
Jeff is a member and former President of both the Hampden County and the Massachusetts Bar Associations. He is a member of the New England Bar Association, where he served on the Board of Directors.
In 2003, Governor Mitt Romney appointed him to the Judicial Nominating Commission. A Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, Jeff is also a Past President of the Massachusetts Bar Institute. He has tried over 100 trials to conclusion, and he has settled, mediated and arbitrated hundreds more.
